Michelle Parsons - "Uncover Me"

Melbourne based singer-songwriter Michelle Parsons picked up a guitar and taught herself to play at the age of 22.  After playing her first gig at Joey's in St Kilda, Michelle walked off stage with a weekly residency and quickly gained a reputation as one of Melbourne's top solo acoustic performers.

Michelle's album "Uncover Me" starts out strong with an upbeat, very classic "rock-n-roll" song - "Blame".  Michelle has a commanding and passionate voice!  Not since Ann Wilson (Heart) or Maria McKee have I heard a female rocker that can sincerely bring it home.  She's got that great mixture of heartfelt feeling and a raspy "don't mess with me or my heart" attitude... very empowering.   "Got A Hold On Me" brings down the tempo just slightly to give us a great love song, without diminishing the drive of the album.  I love the guitar solo.

The entire record drives itself forward, song by song.  "When Hell Freezes Over" - what a compelling song.  Michelle entices her lover with the sexy lyrics "Come a little closer, I'll whisper in your ear...." and then lays the blow, "I'll come running after you when hell freezes over."  This song leaves you without a doubt of her strength.  "Two Lonely Lovers" unfolds a story of two lonely lovers whose eyes meet - both vulnerable from recently ended relationships.   "Caught between the point of pain and delight - two lonely lovers sharing the night.."  Haven't we all been there?  Although, in good form, this one night stand ends with one of them slipping away in the night while the other is sleeping. The loss is not discovered until the morning light.

"The Real Thing" is a slower love song.  Very sweet.
Michelle shows her softer, more vulnerable side.   It is a nice break, preparing you for the second half of the record, which takes off again.   "Tongue Tied" brings us back to our rock roots, reminiscent of the 50's and 60's with doo-wop backup singers and a swingin' feel that makes you want to put on your boots, grab your honey and start dancin'!  We get one more slow song with "What Did I Do" and then Michelle closes it out with a great traditional rock feel.

All in all, two thumbs up for sure.   This album would make a great addition to anyone's iPod, and it definitely should be in every juke box in every bar everywhere. It's awesome to hear a strong woman represent rock-n-roll!  Michelle Parsons will inspire strength in women everywhere.  Embrace your power ladies!

Singer-songwriter, Gypsy creates a unique sound of folk, pop and rock stemming from her rich musical upbringing of Americana roots music.  Gypsy’s songs channel her deep life experiences through poetic lyrics and lilting, beautiful vocals. Growing up in a musical family, Gypsy wrote her first song at the age of five after hearing many of Mom and Dad's living room "jam sessions" with the likes of Tag Lambert (lead guitarist for Bob Wills), and others.  Gypsy was inspired to pursue the life of a musical artist after hearing her Mom’s recordings on the local country stations in Arizona.  Also, Gypsy’s uncle Don Rollins wrote the smash hit, "The Race Is On" recorded by George Jones, Ricky Nelson and The Grateful Dead. Writing is in her blood and deep in her heart.
