Halie Loren - "Full Circle"
Halie Loren - "Full Circle"
Halie Loren's album "Full Circle" is a wonderful mix of beautifully sad and upbeat, hopeful songs.  She has already garnered multiple songwriting awards in almost every music genre from well-respected sources including the Billboard International and John Lennon Songwriting Contests, and took an Independent Songwriter of the Year award before she graduated from high school.  She's been performing professionally for 8 years while working with Grammy-winning musicians and producers. Her voice is powerful, comparable to Sara McLaughlan.  Her words are poetic, and like Jewel, Halie can make you feel the exact emotion of which she speaks, taking the listener on a private journey into the depths of herself.  Halie plays piano effortlessly, and her band is a wonderfully supportive accompaniment, blending all of their sounds to make one artistic creation.  Saxophone on a record is a rare thing these days!

"Maybe I'll Fly" is a great song to kick off the album.  The rhythm of her piano and her powerful voice are instantly captivating.  "Alone" is more moody - the slow profound realization that peace must be found within one's self.  Halie makes a brave move and covers "River" by Joni Mitchell.  She executes it beautifully displaying a knowledge far beyond her years.  I hope Joni gets to hear it someday.   She would be proud.  "Pretty Truth" is a fun and playful song, "Kitty" rocks it out a little more as she shares about the cattiness of our species.  She shows a powerful and grounded side about herself that you can't help but like.  "Sisters" is one of my favorite songs.  It is truly a love-song to all women-kind.

The Album closes with "Lucky", an inspiring song about feeling lucky in knowing that you already have everything that you need: "Lucky is a state of mind." What a blessing of a reminder to leave her listeners with.  Thank you for making music, Halie!

The Adrianne Serna Band - "Time And Place"
Review written by Gypsy Lou

Adrianne Serna

Wow, women like Adrianne make me proud to be a woman and reaffirm the meaning of "Goddess Queen".  In the course of just over three years, she has released two albums on her own independent label, Poor Girl Records and earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Business at San Francisco State University.  Her second album, "Time And Place" is a delicious mix of folk and pop/rock.  With her Suzanne Vega-meets-The Sundays style singing fused together with clever lyrics, catchy choruses and solid musicianship and production, you can't help but tap your foot to this 13-song disc.  I hesitate to say that it's got that 70's "feel good" vibe but, it does!... But don't let those words fool you; this CD is much more complex.  While listening to "Look Around", Ani Difranco came to mind.  This song strikes a chord in anyone watching closely to the sometimes confusing world we live in and wondering where our values are.  "High Time" is a hopeful song with lighter undertones while "Strange Rain" is an obvious tip of the hat to Bob Dylan mixed with Adrianne's own unique vocal style and interesting lyrics.  She has something to say, and she says it.  I think "Reason To Stay" might be my favorite on the disc.  Adrianne perfectly nails the complexity of the question we have all asked ourselves at one time or another, "should I stay or should I go?"

The musicians on this record are solid, precise and tasteful.  There's even a flute on a couple of tracks which just takes things to another level for me.  Andrianne's voice is sweet and at the same time, deeply emotional.  All in all, this is an excellent record and well worth having on the iPod!

Band members: Andrianne Serna, Todd Prose, Dave Sampson & Steve Furst
