Verbal Remedies
Persistence

I have to say, I know from whence I speak. I have been writing and illustrating Verbal Remedies for over 10 years. For the last 4 months, I have taken a break from doing so because I just have not known what to write. In December, a friend and I sat down to decide how she was going to help me with marketing my work. We had made a barter for 10 hours of her time and she is innately a marketer, only learning that about herself right now at the ripe old age of 34.

After looking at all the work I wish to do, the one piece that popped up is the Earth Pledge of Allegiance. I was given the pledge last year right before Earth Day by a friend who is the Environmental Education Director of a local charter school that has the distinction of being one of the top 10 green schools in the United States, according to a contest supported by Ellen Degeneres.  Terry gave me the pledge, I do not know why, and I illustrated it. She then distributed the pledge in bookmark form to the entire school, population of somewhere around 400.

So in December, when Anna and I sat to decide which way to focus, the Earth Pledge rose to the surface. We made a decision to launch on Earth Day. What follows is a crazy coming together of people and energy. I asked my design partner, Michael, to join with me to help me…though I did not know exactly how. He in turn spoke to his sister who has been a teacher writing curriculum for 20 years who asked to work with us to write a curriculum to support the pledge.

Another friend has asked to participate in making a video to chronicle the making of the pledge by the students at Terry’s school…who agreed to make this a part of their Earth Day celebration.

The group that is responsible for the Earth Day concert here in Asheville has asked us to lead the room in making the pledge as the beginning of the concert. Another group has asked us to participate in their Earth Day celebration.

Our intention? We intend that this pledge be made around the world on this Earth Day and beyond by people of all nations, children of all color, religious belief, in short everyone alive on this planet making a decision to awaken to the gifts of this world, this existence on Planet Earth.

Those gifts include you and me. We are each other’s angel and we meet when it is time. Do we dare think that this world is only for the propagation of man’s dreams? Of video games and film, cell phone and text messaging, cool clothing and fast cars? What if all of that is part of it and then there is still the place that we breathe back into that tells us there is more than all that? What if we are here to support the coming of a new age? The age of enlightenment that has been talked about and not so much walked about. Perhaps this is the time of the walk about.

Persistence through the dreams of past, into the now and what is brings us full circle. We are given the view of life through the eyes of the core of creation. What is it that drew us to this incarnation? What is it that brought us into a lifetime filled with angst and fear? What are we doing here? We are here to bring in a new thought. That thought is our very own. Filled with the longing for peace and love. The Hopi have said it and kept it as sacred...”We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”

To sum that all up and in plain and simple English…step into life. Your life. Do what it is that is calling you. And if you are not sure what that is, take a step toward finding out. It is time. The new world is happening. Be a part of it as you have long ago decided to be. And welcome. We need you.
